In the summer of 2019, the devastating Cobraball bushfires left a mass of destruction and heartache behind as the 14km fire front ripped through 6,000 hectares of land. Generations of crops were destroyed, pristine farming land scorched, machinery torched and livestock with no time to spare were lost to the flames. The Cobraball bushfires left a scar on the Livingstone Shire’s soils and in those hearts that call it home.

In the aftermath of this devastation, the Commonwealth government announced $180,000 in funding for the Capricorn Coast Food Trail project to create economic uplift. The joint project with Livingstone Shire Council and Capricorn Enterprise received such a positive response and uptake, Taste Capricorn Coast was established as a local food brand. It is a tourism marketing tool that embraces multiple agritourism aspects by encapsulating everything that it means to be a Capricorn Coast Locavore.

This project has received funding through the Regional Tourism Bushfire Recovery grants program, an Australian Government bushfire recovery initiative.
